It’s “Back to School” time, and that means the Denton community will soon be abuzz with new students, busier streets, and longer wait times at your favorite local restaurant. Although calendars are filling up already, students, families, and professionals alike can all benefit from taking some time to give back to the community and fellow Dentonites in need. Check out these top five ways to give back in Denton through volunteering!

Denton Animal Support Foundation & Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center

If animals hold a special place in your heart, the Denton Animal Support Foundation (DASF) is the right place for you to volunteer your time. Whether you’d like to help with events, photography, data entry, or directly with animals at the shelter, they offer a variety of opportunities! DASF is always looking for volunteers; complete a volunteer form at www.dentonasf.com/volunteer or call (940) 349-7594.

Denton Community Market

Want to support local? When you dedicate your efforts to helping out at the Denton Community Market, you support local artists, businesses, food vendors, and food producers. The community market is held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., through November. To sign up to volunteer, email volunteer@dentonmarket.org or visit www.dentoncommunitymarket.com/volunteer.

CASA of Denton County

Make a difference in a child’s life by volunteering with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Denton County. The organization is currently looking for volunteers for fall outreach events. If you’re up for a rewarding challenge and have a little more time to contribute, you can train to be a volunteer CASA advocate, serving children in the foster care system who have suffered abuse or neglect. To volunteer your time, visit http://casadenton.org/volunteer or contact Debbie Jensen at djensen@casa.org or (940) 243-2272 ext. 103.

Keep Denton Beautiful

Denton is a beautiful place to live, and you can help keep it that way! Get a group of friends together to clean up litter in a public park, or along a local roadway. Keep Denton Beautiful (KDB) provides free supplies and support to volunteer groups. KDB also hosts the ever-popular Community Tree Giveaway, which gives away hundreds of free trees to Dentonites each fall. The organization is looking for volunteers to help tag, sort, and distribute trees at the Giveaway on October 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Email volunteer@kdb.org or complete an online volunteer interest form at www.kdb.org/volunteer to join in the fun!

United Way of Denton County

If you want to serve more than one cause, or help tackle some of our community’s biggest issues, United Way of Denton County is a great organization to guide you. United Way is looking for individuals ready to work at events, help behind the scenes in the office, or connect directly with their partner agencies – area nonprofits who work closely with United Way in the areas of income, health, and education.
