Happy Pollinator Week!

Here at KDB we are excited to celebrate our City’s pollinators! Thirteen years ago, the U.S. Senate designated one week in June to be National Pollinator Week. Since then, the week recognizing the importance of these hardworking fauna in our ecosystems has become an international celebration.

The City of Denton Sustainability Division has worked hard to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators and the City became a certified a Monarch City USA in 2016 and a Bee City USA in 2018. If you are wondering how you can help contribute to a pollinator friendly environment, Sarah Luxton, Sustainability Coordinator recommends, "A great way to support pollinators is to plant native species." For more information, visit the City’s Pollinator Awareness page.

Fun Fact: About 75% of all flowering plants rely on animal pollinators with over 200,000 species of animals acting as pollinators. Of those, about 1,000 are hummingbirds, bats, and small mammals. The rest are insects such as beetles, bees, ants, wasps, butterflies, and moths.
