Children’s Arbor Day 2019

Another Children’s Arbor Day is in the books! Each year, we are so happy to be able to attend Denton-area schools to teach pre-K and third grade students about Arbor Day and the redbud tree – and to give them each a redbud seedling to plant themselves! This year we visited nine schools and gave out over a 1,000 redbud seedlings, courtesy of program sponsor First United Bank. Every year First United Bank employee, Todd Price, joins us at the schools to present to the students. Many thanks as well to Scott Geer with Tree Shepherds, Haywood Morgan, Urban Forester at City of Denton, and Vanessa Ellison, Recycling Education Coordinator at the City of Denton, who also gave of their time to teach kids about Arbor Day.

Seeing the kids and how much they already know about trees made us very happy. If you have a redbud in your yard that came from Children’s Arbor Day, show it to us! Use the hashtag #myKDBtree, or email it to info@kdb.org.

Bronze Leaf - Oscars Style

You may have noticed that it’s award season in Hollywood, but you may not know that it’s also award season here at Keep Denton Beautiful! We may swap our glamorous, floor-length gowns and designer tuxedos for gardening gloves and trash grabbers, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Over the last couple of months, we have been honored to receive recognition for many of our programs, ranging from our Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, to our urban forestry programs like Denton Redbud Festival and Children’s Arbor Day.

And the awards are…

We could not do what we do without the support of our members, donors, volunteers, and supporters! Thank you for helping us keep Denton beautiful!
